Terms and Conditions

North Spore liquid culture syringes are ~10ml and come sealed in a plastic sleeve with a sterile 16 gauge needle and alcohol wipe.
About liquid culture:
Liquid culture is mycelium suspended in a nutrient-rich medium. Syringes are beginner-friendly and ideal for those looking for an easy way to inoculate grain bags and jars.
Using liquid culture:
For best results, refrigerate upon receipt. Syringes should be inserted into a self-healing injection port. Always handle using sterile technique and shake thoroughly before use. We recommended inoculation in either a still air box or flow hood to reduce the possibility of contamination. If you plan to re-use your needle, sterilize before and after each subsequent use.
'Marbled' black king (Pleurotus spp.) is a reliable commercial strain that grows some of the heartiest mushrooms with beautiful brown marbled caps and soft stems. When cultivated successfully, you can expect a large harvest of very meaty and delicious mushrooms. This strain is a cross between oyster and king trumpets from Japan. It prefers cooler temperatures and is prone to drying out or stopping growth if humidity is not maintained when the mushrooms are still in their early stages. Yield averages are .75-1.5 lb first flush off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust blocks.
'Rose' pink oyster (Pleurotus djamor) is a popular commercial strain that produces large flowery clusters of bright pink caps. This strain is very fast growing and even tolerant of non-sterile cultivation techniques. It fruits best at warmer temperatures (not recommended for cold season outdoor production). Do not refrigerate pink oyster liquid culture syringes.
'Acorn' shiitake (Lentinus edodes) is one of our favorite commercial strains for indoor shiitake block production. Similar to our '207' strain, Acorn shiitake fruits best at colder temperatures and produces delicious, meaty mushrooms with large caps and smaller stems. Yield averages are .75-1.5 lb first flush off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust blocks.
This morel strain (Morchella spp.) was cloned from a wild specimen found growing under fruit trees in Vermont and is one of our favorites! Morels are best suited for outdoor cultivation, although some growers have been successful with indoor cultivation through trial and error. Morels are a famously difficult mushroom species to cultivate but are great for experimenting with new methods. Given their difficulty, we do not currently recommend for commercial use.
'Lion's Brain' lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a very productive commercial strain that produces plump, dense, shaggy mushroom clusters. It's a reliable producer that fruits best in cooler temperatures. On average, you can expect 1/2-1 lb yield on first flush off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust with consistent subsequent fruitings over several months.
'Popham' elm oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a popular commercial strain that produces highly branched clusters of off-white/tan mushrooms. This strain is very fast growing and yields well in both cold and warm temperatures. Averages 1-2 lbs first flush off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust blocks but will also produce off sterilized straw substrate.
'Speckled' chestnut (Pholiota adiposa) is a popular commercial strain from the west coast. It produces velvety, small-to-medium, brownish-orange speckled caps resembling the color of its namesake nut. A visually striking mushroom highly prized by chefs, first flushes average 1-2 lbs off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust blocks.
'Harbor Blue' oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a very productive commercial strain of blue oyster from Pennsylvania that fruits dense clusters with dark grayish-blue caps. It produces best in cooler temperatures but also performs well during the warmer months. Averages 1-2 lbs first flush off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust blocks but will also produce off sterilized straw substrate.
'Willow' pioppino (Agrocybe aegerita) is a commercial strain that produces large flushes of velvety-capped mushrooms with snappy stalks. These mushrooms are relatively sturdy and are not too brittle for distance shipping or delivery. This strain is a customer favorite because it produces consistent yields and reliable flushes.
Almond Agaricus (Agaricus subrufescens, syn. A. blazei, A. brasiliensis) is a fast substrate colonizer in the button mushroom family that has a lovely almond scent. Just like button mushrooms, Almond Agaricus grows in compost and manure-based substrates. They’re an ideal mushroom for those with some experience with other mushroom species, like Wine Cap or Oysters. Do not refrigerate almond agaricus liquid culture syringes.
Our liquid culture syringes are ~10ml and come sealed in a plastic sleeve with a sterile 16 gauge needle and alcohol wipe.
