Turn one spore or culture syringe into 30 syringes!

Our liquid culture expander kit saves you time and money by allowing you to easily turn a single 10ml culture or spore syringe into 300ml of liquid culture without the use of expensive equipment. Formulated for swift spore germination and rapid mycelial growth, our sterile, nutrient-rich “expander broth” was formulated by mycologists and is the ideal environment for growing mycelium.

Rapid spore germination and mycelium cloning

In just 7-14 days, your “expander broth” will contain vibrant liquid culture which can be refrigerated for up to 4 months. Use liquid culture to inoculate a variety of sterile substrates (including sterile grain bags, grain jars, and all-in-one grow bags). A simple, cost-effective solution for both large and small inoculation projects!

Note: A culture or spore syringe is required to use this kit.

    Kit includes:
        (1) Jar with 300ml sterilized media
        (1) Lid with self-healing injection port and 0.22 micron filter
        (1) Reusable silicone jar lid cover
        (1) Sterile 60cc syringe
        (1) Sterile 14 gauge needle
        (2) Alcohol wipes
        (1) Instruction manual

    Upon arrival:

Liquid Culture Kit is best used within one month of receipt. We recommend waiting at least one week after arrival before injecting your Liquid Culture Kit to ensure it wasn’t compromised in transit. If the liquid appears cloudy, it is compromised and should be replaced. (We guarantee replacements – just reach out!)

    Storage:

Store in a dry place at approximately 50-70°F until use. Once fully colonized, the liquid culture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four months!

Note: Do not refrigerate pink oyster or almond agaricus.

    For best results

We recommend wearing latex gloves and working inside a still air box (like the NocBox) or in front of a flow hood. If you do not have access to either, a well-cleaned space can be used, but contamination is more likely.

Choose a location with little air movement, shut windows and doors, turn off any heating or cooling units, and choose a work surface you can sanitize with isopropyl alcohol.

Begin by sanitizing your work surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Let sit on surfaces until dry or for several seconds before wiping dry with a clean paper towel.

    Inoculating your jar
If the liquid culture or spore syringe doesn’t look uniform, you may shake it for a few seconds to disperse the mycelium or spores.
Inject 2-5 cc's of a spore syringe or liquid culture into the jar. (Needles come sterile in their packaging, but subsequent use of a culture or spore syringe will require re-sterilization of the needle.)
Sterilize the needle with alcohol or flame sterilize with an alcohol burner or lighter. If using a flame to sterilize, the tip of the needle should be heated until it glows red and then allowed to cool before injection.

WARNING: Do not use an open flame inside a still-air box. Agitate the jar by shaking it for 20-30 seconds. This will help to disperse the spores or culture throughout the media.
